Mercury Rev: Born Horses

Mercury Rev have announced their first album of original music in nine years. The follow-up to 2015’s The Light in You, titled Born Horses, is due out September 6 via Bella Union. Mercury Rev have also shared the lead single, “Patterns,” and its music video. In the clip, close-up shots of film reel countdowns, grainy footage, and text flash across the screen. Check that out, as well as the tracklist for Born Horses, below.

Explaining the song’s backstory, Mercury Rev said, “When we gaze up at the stars in the sky at night, the flickering lights seem random. If we could zoom out and see all of the galaxies revolving around each other, we would see the order in it. There are only Patterns on top of Patterns….”

In 2019, Mercury Rev released the covers album Bobbie Gentry’s the Delta Sweete Revisited. Read the Sunday Review of Mercury Rev’s first album, 1991’s Yerself Is Steam.
