This year marks the 20th anniversary of Death Cab for Cutie’s landmark album Plans, and the indie rock band plan on ringing in that milestone with a handful of special shows. The four concerts take place in August and span three cities—Seattle, Chicago, and Brooklyn—in which they will play the 2005 LP in full, including singles “Soul Meets Body,” “I Will Follow You Into the Dark,” and “Crooked Teeth.” Nation of Language and the American Analog Set will open select shows. Watch a trailer for those concerts, and see Death Cab for Cutie’s full list of tour dates, below.
“Plans is an album that changed the trajectory of Death Cab for Cutie forever—it was our major label debut, it went platinum, and earned us our first GRAMMY nominations,” frontman Benjamin Gibbard said in a statement. “We are only playing a few shows in its honor as we’re currently working on our next studio album, but we would be remiss to not take the opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary in some fashion.”
On August 9, Death Cab for Cutie will break up their two headlining Brooklyn shows by opening for My Chemical Romance’s stadium concert in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where they’re playing The Black Parade in full. This date is not listed as one of Death Cab for Cutie’s Plans anniversary shows.
Death Cab for Cutie are coming off a very busy, and practically nonstop, live schedule; the past two years, they’ve been playing Transatlanticism in full on a co-headlining tour with the Postal Service, meaning Gibbard was pulling double duty each night, much to the delight of millennials everywhere.
