Bright Eyes are back with their first new album in four years: Five Dice, All Threes arrives September 20 via Dead Oceans. They’re sharing the lead single, “Bells and Whistles,” with a Josh Boone–directed music video starring a magical photo booth. Check out that new song and the album tracklist below.
“This is a song about the many little details in life that can seem insignificant or frivolous or temporary at the time, but eventually end up forming your destiny. And it’s also kind of a whistle while you work scenario,” singer Conor Oberst said of “Bells and Whistles.”
Five Dice, All Threes includes guest features from Cat Power, the National’s Matt Berninger, and the So So Glos’ Alex Orange Drink—the latter of whom also co-wrote a few songs with Bright Eyes this go-around. Self-produced and recorded at ARC, the studio of Bright Eyes members Mike Mogis and Conor Oberst in Omaha, Nebraska, Five Dice, All Threes is Bright Eyes’ follow-up to the 2020 comeback record Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was.
Bright Eyes will head out on tour in support of their new album, too, beginning with a show at Brooklyn Steel in New York on September 19. The band will play a few other U.S. shows before flying to Europe in November. Also included on this upcoming run are headlining sets at Riot Fest and Best Friends Forever Festival.
