Actress Rachel Zegler is not attending the Academy Awards and she’s not too happy about it.
Neither are her fans.
The New Jersey native, who won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her role in “West Side Story”, was the first actress of Columbian descent to win the award. She is also the youngest recipient to ever win the award at 20 years old.
In a recent Instagram snap, Zegler revealed that she didn’t score an invite to the Academy Awards.
Rachel Zegler Says She’s ‘Not Invited’ To Academy Awards Ceremony
After sharing a stunning Instagram selfie, one fan commented, “Can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing on Oscar night.”
Zegler replied, “I’m not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend’s flannel.”
“You’ll rock that look too I’m guessing,” another fan replied.
“No? Even with a nominated movie?” another asked. “West Side Story” has earned seven Academy Award nominations, although Zegler did not earn any.
“Why aren’t you invited….so not fair,” another commented.
“aww that stinks,” said the original posted. “But even though you’re not nominated, you’re a winner in my book. And you looked stunning at both the BAFTAs and critics choice awards.”
“@rachelzegler breaks my heart.,” another added. “You were the best part of that movie. Surely Steven Spielberg could do something about this.”
“@theacademy step up to the mic? How’s the leading actress of a movie that’s up for 7 Academy Awards not invited? How does that make any sense???” another asked.
“noooo! My little girl was really looking forward to seeing what you were going to wear 😢” another commented. “she’s having a west side story birthday this year so the Oscars may not want you but you will always have a fan here in England ❤️”
‘I Have Tried It All But It Doesn’t Seem To Be Happening’
Zegler replied, “idk y’all i have tried it all but it doesn’t seem to be happening :’) i will root for west side story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago. i hope some last minute miracle occurs and i can celebrate our film in person but hey, that’s how it goes sometimes, i guess. thanks for all the shock and outrage— i’m disappointed, too. but that’s okay. so proud of our movie. ❤️”
Other fans decided to look past “West Side Story” and look ahead to her future roles.
“@rachelzegler I’m so very sorry you are not going Rachel,” another shared. “It just does not seem right the Star of a 7 time oscar nominated film and who is an integral part of the movie is not invited. Well, I guess that is their loss. I hope you’re still having fun in London making Snow White and cannot wait see it along with Shazam 2. Lots of love! 😊💗”
Rachel Zegler Responds To Fan Outrage On Twitter
my goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, i really really do. we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in london)…

On Sunday, Zegler took to Twitter in order to try to quell some of the fan outrage surrounding her second Oscar snub.
“my goodness, folks!! appreciate all the support, i really really do,” she began. “we live in such unprecedented times, and a lot of work behind the scenes goes into making movie magic happen. that goes for film productions (like the one I am so lucky to be currently shooting in london)…”
“…and awards shows alike. let’s all just respect the process and i’ll get off my phone x R,” she concluded.
However, fans still noted that the exclusion was bigger than her.
The “process” that the Academy has for continuing to exclude Latinos needs to be thrown in the garbage. Let’s not forget that this is an ongoing issue with them. They excluded a Latina from the in memoriam recently (& more ex: Lupe Ontiveros historically): https://t.co/izb2OHmjFD

“The ‘process’ that the Academy has for continuing to exclude Latinos needs to be thrown in the garbage,” one fan wrote, mentioning how they recently excluded a Latina from the In Memoriam segment.
“Respectfully, no,” another wrote. “You’re literally the star.”
It remains to be seen if her fans will be able to get her a seat at the ceremony, but with the Oscars ceremony happening next week, it remains to be seen how effective it will be.
