ExtraEmily gets 1 day Twitch ban despite running a red light on stream

FaZe Lacy reading and driving

ExtraEmily was banned from Twitch after livestreaming herself breaking the law, running straight through a red light and streaming the whole thing. She was banned from the platform after the clip went viral, but not for very long.

Twitch bans are historically inconsistent, with the platform coming under fire for unbanning certain creators like Adin Ross. When big creators get barred from the platform, it usually isn’t for very long.

However, after ExtraEmily went viral for driving through an intersection without stopping for the light, she clearly broke the law on stream. As such, a Twitch ban was delivered for violating the terms of service on the platform.

But a message in ExtraEmily’s Discord has revealed that she’s only banned for a day, with her saying that she plans to return to streaming soon.

The subject of irresponsible driving is a hot one on Twitch, with several large streamers broadcasting themselves reading chat on their phones or moving cameras around while driving. However, this isn’t technically against the law.

Laws vary from place to place, but hands-free phone use is legal as long as you’re not texting while driving in the vast majority of states in the U.S.

FaZe Lacy is under scrutiny for recently reading chat while driving, with his mods deleting clips of it. But, depending on the interpretation of road law, Lacy wasn’t doing anything illegal even if it could be considered irresponsible driving by some.

Twitch’s TOS also reads as follows: “You may not show or promote dangerous or distracted driving, including using a phone while driving and driving under the influence,” with it not being clear if “using” your phone refers to looking at it or physically holding it. Again, this is up to interpretation and gives Twitch room to decide what is and isn’t dangerous driving.

ExtraEmily, meanwhile, has done something irrefutably illegal and earned herself a Twitch ban. But it’s a very brief one.

ExtraEmily Discord announcement message

She addressed the ban in a message to her fans on Discord, but also revealed that she’d be back on Monday or Tuesday, revealing that she’d be able to start streaming again a day after her ban.

Additionally, she didn’t directly apologize for it, saying that her ban was “understandable” and that she’d be “trying my best to have fun content and improve from this mishap”.

It isn’t clear at this time if ExtraEmily received any legal repercussions from driving through a red light.
