The first trailer for Warfare, the next film from Ex Machina and Civil War director Alex Garland — in collaboration with Iraq war veteran Ray Mendoza — has been released. The film is shot in realtime and is based on the experiences of real-life veterans.

The cast of Warfare is an ensemble that features D’pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga, Joseph Quinn, and Charles Melton.

Here is the official synopsis and trailer for Warfare, via A24:

“Written and Directed by Iraq War veteran Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland (Civil War, 28 Days Later), Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told like never before: in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it.”

Garland, who has also written films such as 28 Days Later (and its upcoming incredible looking legacy sequel), Sunshine, and Dredd, most recently directed Civil War, which hit theaters earlier this year. Garland has also directed acclaimed sci-fi films such as Ex Machina and Annhilation.
