We are still recovering from that big Avengers: Doomsday “chair watch.” The 5-hour cast reveal displayed names of 26 different actors who will join the highly anticipated film, the first Avengers movie in seven years. But it turns out, each actor revealed only knew of their own involvement in the film. Among those actors was Simu Liu, who is finally returning as Shang-Chi for Doomsday. Via IGN, we learned that while he was a guest on The Jennifer Hudson Show, he told her he was as surprised as anyone at the other names on the chairs. The reason for the secrecy? Two big MCU stars who can’t keep their mouths shut.
I knew I was going to be involved in it to some capacity. But I didn’t know who else they were announcing. They don’t tell us anything. Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo ruined it for all of us. Now, they don’t tell us.
This is all Simu Liu joking around, of course. But he’s making light out of something that’s very true. The actors who portray Marvel’s Spider-Man and Hulk have very big mouths, and have ruined big surprises in the past when talking to media. Remember when Tom Holland accidentally revealed the Infinity War poster and release date? So because of that, everyone else has been subject to Kevin Feige’s CIA-level secrecy surrounding these films. Now they keep all these actors in the dark.
Simu Liu was most impressed to know that he’d soon share the screen with acting royalty like Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen. He had no idea that the X-Men universe’s Professor X and Magneto would be joining the film. Liu said “These are two of the greatest actors to have ever walked the face of the Earth. That blew my mind a little bit.” Hey, it blew all of our minds. With a cast as large as Doomsday’s, there’s no guarantee they’ll share a scene. But the prospect certainly has him excited. And we can’t blame him.
