K-pop’s most exciting storytellers ENHYPEN will release “YOI,” their fourth Japanese single, on Friday, September 12.
This single will be offered in a few different formats. Limited Edition A and Limited Edition B releases include a 36-page photobook and photo cover, six-page lyric book, selfie photocard (1 of 7 / random), and photo card (1 of 7 / random). The Standard Edition comes with an eight-page booklet, selfie photocard (1 of 7 / random), and photocard (1 of 7 / random). To celebrate the release, ENHYPEN will hold a showcase in Japan on July 31.
The tracklist for the new collection includes “Shine On Me,” “Echoes,” and “Bad Desire (With or Without You) [Japanese Ver.].”
The band began teasing the release last month with a minute-long video teaser, which begins with a title card reading: “drawn by an invisible force: phase 1.” Ethereal synthesizers and atmospheric sounds accompany images of the band placed against a nighttime mountainous desert landscape. Close-up shots of each member are interspersed with graphics of the cosmos.
The project’s first single, “Shine On Me,” arrived on July 4. The guitar-led track features an undeniable hook and lyrics about an intoxicating romance. The English translation of the song reveals: “Saw the brightest star in the night sky/ The ‘you’ that I met on that night was a star/ The pitch-black world that seemed to cover my tired days (Shine on me)/ You shone over that.”
During the chorus, the band sings (translated): “The stars illuminate the night sky/ And illuminates me/ The future I want to see with you, forever/ Next to me/ Always shine on me/ Closer to you/ I want to give in even to your selfish desires/ Always next to you, I’ll shine on you.”
The K-pop idols have stayed busy of late, releasing an album, DESIRE: UNLEASH, back in June. That project also included “Bad Desire (With or Without You),” though “YOI” will be presenting the track in a brand new language.
