Dwayne Johnson Wants to Make a Black Adam vs. Superman Movie

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - OCTOBER 06: Dwayne Johnson attends the Warner Bros.

Dwayne Johnson is definitely on board for more Black Adam installments. When recently asked by Cinemablend if he has any plans to make a movie where Black Adam fights against Superman, he said, “Absolutely. That is the whole point of this, man.”

In the Oct. 10 feature, Johnson said he feels the emergence of Black Adam marks a new chapter for DC. “I have been saying for some time, there’s a new era in the DC Universe that’s about to begin,” he said. “And what I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It’s not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was . . . you know, Black Adam! Two years ago, the world had no idea who he was. We did, but not, you know, the rest of the mass out there. Introducing the JSA, introducing that new era of the DC universe. But also what I really meant by, ‘This is a new era in the DC Universe,’ is listening to the fans. Listening to the fans. And doing our best to give the fans what they want.”

Johnson, who portrays antihero Black Adam in the film, has previously stoked rumors of a Black Adam-Superman clash. In a 2021 interview with Total Film via Games Radar, he said, “We can do anything if we keep the audience first. So to me, there’s a battle that’s going to go down one day, between Black Adam and Superman. I don’t know who that Superman is going to be, and I don’t know who’s going to play him. That’s OK. I don’t need to know right now. But I’m confident in knowing that [laughs]. And that’s based out of what fans want. We worked backwards from there.”

He addressed the potential showdown once again by claiming that his character is as strong as Superman in a July interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “Black Adam has all the powers of Superman, but the difference is he is blessed with magic,” he said, continuing, “There were a lot of elements like that that made me feel this is a real opportunity here. I felt like everything that I had done in the past in terms of my career, all the movies that I had done over the decades, even the ones that didn’t do well, all led to this particular role.”

“Black Adam” premieres on Oct. 21.
