A surprising revelation can leave the most seasoned host speechless — and that’s exactly what happened to Drew Barrymore when actor Valerie Bertinelli casually revealed who she once dated.
In an Instagram video from “The Drew Barrymore Show” posted on Tuesday, Barrymore, Bertinelli, and guest host Ross Mathews took a stroll down memory lane during a segment aptly titled “Memory Bank.”
“Wait a minute, is that who I think it is?” Barrymore exclaimed, her face showing a perfect combination of confusion and curiosity as she looked at a black and white photo displayed onscreen during the segment.
“Who do you think it is?” Bertinelli teased, relishing the moment.

Bertinelli confirmed that the man in the photo was director Steven Spielberg — the man behind “E.T.” and “Jurassic Park.”
This prompted Matthews to ask, “What are you doing with Steven Spielberg?”
Bertinelli then dropped a bomb on the two hosts and revealed that she’d dated Spielberg for a “New York minute.”
Cue a double take from both Barrymore and Matthews, their faces morphing with bewilderment. Bertinelli indulged their curiosity and shared that this was before she met “Ed” — referring to her first husband, rock musician Eddie Van Halen.

“I went up to go read for ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ and then [Spielberg] asked me out on a date,” she continued. “We were together for three, four months, and he still has a bowling shirt of mine.”
Bertinelli explained that she forgot to get the shirt out of Spielberg’s closet when they broke up and jokingly said she “would like it back.”
Barrymore, still processing this fever dream, leaned in further and asked if the two “had fun” during their tryst.
