Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado, the latest live-action movie in kids franchise Dora the Explorer, is set to premiere on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon in the U.S. on Wednesday, July 2, with plans to debut in international territories shortly thereafter.
Kicking off a raft of content launching as part of “The Great Dora Fiesta,” celebrating the franchise’s 25-year anniversary, Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado follows a 16-year-old version of Latina heroine Dora (Samantha Lorraine), the world’s greatest explorer, as she and her friends trek through the perilous dangers of the Amazonian jungle in search of the ancient treasure of Sol Dorado to prevent it from falling into enemy hands.
Others in the cast of the family film include Jacob Rodriguez, Mariana Garzón Toro, Acston Luca Porto, Daniella Pineda, and Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias. Alberto Belli directed from a script by JT Billings, with Adam Bonnett, Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh Valdes exec producing.
On July 2, Dora fans will also be treated to Dora & Diego: Rainforest Rescues, an hour-long special extension of Paramount+’s CG-animated preschool series Dora, which likewise debuts on both Paramount+ and Nickelodeon. The same day, the third season of Dora the animated series — featuring a special birthday-themed episode and guest stars like Danny Trejo — begins streaming exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and internationally where the service is available.
Additionally, Magic Mermaid Adventures (working title), an hour-long global cinema screening event featuring four exclusive never-before-seen episodes, will debut in over 20 markets this fall. A new Dora’s Mermaid Adventures podcast and accompanying YouTube series are also set to launch.
Launching on Nickelodeon all the way back on August 14, 2000, Dora the Explorer follows an adventurous young girl named Dora as she embarks on interactive, educational quests with her talking backpack and monkey sidekick Boots, solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles while encouraging young viewers to explore and learn in multiple languages. The show remains one of the most-watched preschool titles of all time, having been seen in more than 150 countries and territories and been translated into 32 languages across Nickelodeon channels and Paramount+, as well as through syndication. Over its eight-season run, Dora the Explorer has also earned numerous accolades including Emmy, Peabody, NAACP, Alma, Imagen, Latino Spirit, Gracie Allen, Parents’ Choice, Common Sense Media, and Television Critics Association awards.
Prior to The Search for Sol Dorado, Paramount and Nickelodeon partnered on another live-action feature adaptation in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, starring The Last of Us’ Isabela Merced, which was released in theaters in 2019. Check out first-look stills from the new film above and below.
