Donald Sutherland, the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actor whose career spanned more than six decades across film and television, has died at the age of 88.
He died on Thursday in Miami after a long illness, CAA rep Missy Davy told multiple publications.
A prolific actor with notable on-screen credits including M*A*S*H, Ordinary People, Animal House, JFK, The Italian Job, Pride & Prejudice, and The Hunger Games franchise, Sutherland was never nominated for an Oscar, but was presented with an Honorary Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2017.
Sutherland was born on July 17th, 1935 in Saint John, a small fishing village in New Brunswick, Canada. Initially planning on becoming an engineer, Sutherland emerged from his studies at Victoria University in Toronto with a double major in engineering and drama. He then moved to England to study at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Sutherland was also the father of actor Kiefer Sutherland.
