Holiday shopping can be stressful and expensive, but Dollar General customers can rest a little easier knowing they are getting a bargain along with same-day delivery. “We have a highly successful and incremental delivery partnership with DoorDash in approximately 16,000 of our stores, and learnings from that initiative and our own customer work have provided the foundation from which to test our own delivery offering with our unique customer base,” CEO Todd Vasos said in a third-quarter earnings call. “We believe this offering will even further enhance the convenience our customers expect from Dollar General, while still providing the value they need. We are quickly learning and refining our process and, over time, we believe we can have delivery through the DG app available [in] the same number of stores as our DoorDash offering, which we expect to continue expanding over time.” Here’s what you need to know about the new perk.

Partnership With DoorDash

Dollar General is teaming up with DoorDash to get customers their same-day delivery. “We believe it’s time,” Vasos says. “We believe that we are doing it our way, meaning the DG way, and the way that our Dollar General customer wants it. And with that comes low cost to both our customers and to Dollar General. And there are always ways to offset some of those costs that will be inherent in the delivery piece with the vendor community and others.”
The Fine Print

According to the Dollar General website, deliveries should arrive within an hour of making an order. Sign into your DoorDash account and find Dollar General, make your order, and voila. You’re all set. “See the DoorDash Marketplace for a list of fees associated with your order,” Dollar General explains. “The fees help DoorDash pay the Dashers, operate the DoorDash platform, and provide the best service possible. You can see the fees from the checkout screen so you’ll know what the total is for your order before paying. You’ll also receive a receipt from DoorDash showing a breakdown of the order subtotal, applicable taxes, fees, and gratuity.”
DoorDash Is the Vendor

Technically you are ordering from DoorDash, not Dollar General. “Your DoorDash Same Day Delivery Order is not associated with your Dollar General Account in any way,” the company says. “Purchases on DoorDash will not show on your Dollar General Order History. You will not receive the in-store receipt. You will only be provided a digital receipt from DoorDash.”
Restrictions Apply

Because you are ordering from DoorDash, customers cannot use SNAP/EBT as payment. “Coupons will not apply to your DoorDash Same Day Delivery Order,” Dollar General says. “This means customers can NOT apply their $5 off $25 coupons or any other coupons to a DoorDash Same Day Delivery Order.”

Any issues or mistakes must be taken up with DoorDash, not Dollar General: “Any returns, damaged merchandise or problems with your order should be directed to DoorDash. Dollar General Stores cannot accept a DoorDash receipt for any refunds or credits. Dollar General Customer Support and Dollar General Stores are unable to support any DoorDash order questions or issues.”
