Dua Lipa‘s Barbie soundtrack contribution “Dance the Night” is a continuation of the disco anthems that she explored on Future Nostalgia in 2020.
However, its music video seemingly provides a subtle hint that a change is coming.
During a recent interview, Mark Ronson opened up on working with Dua on the track. He also provided a tease about what fans should expect from her forthcoming album. According to him, the “Dance the Night” video was the start of something new in a very subtle way.

Speaking to Vulture, Mark noted that “Dance the Night” did feel “Future Nostalgia–adjacent. “Her music does the s-it that I really love, as far as dance music goes: It has an energy, but it’s kind of tough and weird,” he explained.
However, he alluded to plans for Dua to take a break from being pop’s reigning disco diva when she returns with a new album. According to him, the music video made it clear that she was closing out the era with a Barbie-sized banger.
“I mean, I’ve heard some of it and it’s incredible. I think that’s why there’s the disco ball that smashes in the video, right? This feels like her triumphant stomp on that era of her music into whatever she does next,” he teased.
While we don’t have a release date yet, Dua was spotted at a recording studio earlier this year. We’ll keep you updated!
