The first official trailer for Eddington, the latest movie from Hereditary and Midsommar director Ari Aster, has been released. The film, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal in the leads roles, is a surreal horror Western set in the fictional town of Eddington during the height of the 2020 chaos.

Plot details for Eddington have been largely kept under wraps but this latest official trailer for the film certainly paints a clear picture of what Ari Aster’s newest film is going to be about. Aster most recently directed 2023’s Beau Is Afraid (which also starred Phoenix), a far less successful and revered film than his previous two efforts, Hereditary and Midsommar

Eddington boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that features Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone, Austin Butler, Luke Grimes, Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward, Amélie Hoeferle, Clifton Collins Jr., William Belleau, and more.

Check out the synopsis and first official trailer for Eddington, via A24, below.

“In May of 2020, a standoff between a small-town sheriff (Joaquin Phoenix) and mayor (Pedro Pascal) sparks a powder keg as neighbor is pitted against neighbor in Eddington, New Mexico.”

Eddington is one of three high-profile projects that Pascal is starring in this summer, as he’s also featuring alongside Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans in Celine Song’s The Materialists, which hits theaters this weekend, and the massive Marvel Studios film The Fantastic Four: First Steps, in which he stars as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic.
