Disturbed have unleashed the new song “I Will Not Break,” marking the band’s first new music since their 2022 album Divisive.
The single is being billed as the start of a “new era” for the multiplatinum rock act, as it marks the first release on Disturbed’s own label, Mother Culture Records.
Lyrically, singer David Draiman delves into deeply personal territory, referencing the suicidal thoughts he experienced a couple years ago: “Why am I acting like an animal/ What the hell happened to me/ I’ve had enough of feeling terrified/ Now I’m deciding/ That I won’t be hiding from anyone/ The change was/ Far beyond physical when it all happened to me/ I even contemplated suicide/ And though I am haunted/ I will not be taunted by anyone.”
During a concert in 2023, Draiman told the audience, “I miss the friends that we’ve lost. I miss Chester [Bennington], I miss Scott [Weiland], I miss Chris [Cornell]. And if I can be completely honest with you, a couple months ago, I almost joined them. Addiction and depression can happen to anyone ladies and gentlemen. No one is immune from it no matter how beautiful their life may look from the outside.”
The new song comes just days before Disturbed kick off their North American tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their debut album The Sickness. The 34-date outing kicks off this coming Tuesday (February 25th) and runs through a May 17th show in Las Vegas. Tickets are available here.
Disturbed will also release a deluxe 25th anniversary edition of The Sickness on March 7th, including a box set with demos and rarities.
