Disney has revealed a new trailer for its upcoming live-action remake of Snow White starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, which arrives in theaters on March 21st, 2025.
The trailer signals Snow White to be a faithful adaptation of the 1937 animated film, itself an adaptation of the 1812 Brothers Grimm fairytale. Zegler stars as Snow White, a princess living with her evil stepmother The Queen (Gal Gadot) who rules the kingdom with an iron fist. Once Snow White is urged to flee into the woods by the Huntsman (Ansu Kabia), she ends up in a cottage surrounded by doting animals and seven (CGI) dwarves. Now armed with the help of her friends, Snow White attempts to restore light back into the kingdom. Watch the trailer below.
Disney originally unveiled the first trailer for Snow White at their D23 event in August, and has been teasing the new reimagining for multiple years now. The film was directed by Marc Webb, with the screenplay being written by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. In addition to Zegler, Gadot, and Kabia, the film also stars Andrew Burnap, Dujonna Gift, Martin Klebba, and Colin Michael Carmicahel. Snow White was originally slated for release in March 2024, but was moved to March 21st, 2025 due to the SAG-AFTRA strike.
The new remake hasn’t been without controversy — some took issue with Zegler, a Latina actress, being cast as Snow White, while Peter Dinklage expressed disappointment that Disney was “still making that fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together.” In response to Dinklage’s criticism, Disney released a statement that said, “to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we are taking a different approach with these seven characters and have been consulting with members of the dwarfism community.”
However, more controversy arrived when reports surfaced that Disney had filmed one actor with dwarfism to play one of the seven dwarves, with the rest being comprised of non-dwarf actors; the final product features all seven dwarves rendered by CGI.
