Dua Lipa recently made the jump into acting, having appeared briefly in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie in 2023 and then Matthew Vaughn’s Argylle in 2024.
While both of those roles were relatively small, they signal an intent from the 28-year-old pop star to expand her career outside of music, similar to Lady Gaga, who has gone on to become an Academy Award-nominated actress.
Given Lipa’s popularity and her movie-star looks, it’s really only a matter of time until a Hollywood studio gambles big on her as a lead. Remember that awful Cara Delevinge experience? Yikes.
And apparently, it may be the Mouse House who takes the first swing as rumors from The DisInsider indicate that she’s being eyed to play Meg in their long-gestating live-action Hercules film.
In an article fielding questions from readers, the Disney source was asked whether anyone other than Ariana Grande is being considered for the role of Meg, prompting The DisInsider to say “Not saying anyone should run with this as 100% fact but a name I hear Disney likes right now is Dua Lipa.”
Most recently, Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, who are producing the film, said they are still waiting for a script to be turned in for the project, which is set to be directed by Guy Ritchie.
Given the red hair that Lipa has been rocking over the last year or so and her obvious ability to perform musical numbers, it’s easy to see why Disney is rumored to be eyeing her to play Meg. As for Hercules himself, the publication says they’ve heard rumors of Austin Butler.
At this time, Lipa is not attached to any upcoming movies. Her latest album, Radical Optimism, was released on May 3.
