The treasure will once again go have to go unfound. The National Treasure series, Edge of History, had quite a bit of buzz going into its first season on Disney+. But Deadline reports that the streamer has opted not to renew the show for a second season. National Treasure: Edge of History lived in the world of the National Treasure movie franchise and even had crossover guest stars and storylines. Both fans and creators crossed their fingers that one day we would even get to see Nicolas Cage cameo as Benjamin Franklin Gates on National Treasure: Edge of History. And that maybe, just maybe, everyone hoped that the show could serve as a bridge to National Treasure 3. But with the National Treasure series now cancelled, we will all have move to move our hopes elsewhere.
According to producer Jerry Bruckheimer, a National Treasure 3 script is in the works. So perhaps, instead of a National Treasure series leading to another movie, the movie will instead check back in on our favorites from the series.
Though no more episodes are forthcoming, you can watch the first season of National Treasure: Edge of History on Disney+.
