Discord fully launches ‘Orbs’ currency that lets you buy Nitro

Discord has officially rolled out Orbs across the entire platform, giving users a new way to earn free perks, including Nitro, just by completing in-app Quests.

The feature, which was previously in limited testing, is now available globally. Orbs function as a reward currency tied to Discord’s expanding Quest system. Users can complete tasks like trying out partnered games, participating in events, or exploring new features in return for Orb payouts.

Once earned, they can be redeemed in the Rewards Shop for various items, with three-day Nitro subscriptions being the headline offering. Nitro grants users premium features like HD streaming, custom emojis, boosted upload limits, and server boosts.

How to earn Orbs and claim rewards

To start earning Orbs, users can check the Quests tab in the Discovery menu at the bottom of the server list, which now includes a rotating selection of available tasks.

Quests vary in length and type, with some requiring gameplay in Discord-integrated titles, while others involve exploring built-in features or watching a video game trailer.

Orbs cannot be purchased with real money, and the company has emphasized that the system is designed to reward engagement rather than spending. The company says this is part of a broader push to make the app “more rewarding” for its millions of users across the world.

Earlier in July, Discord made a major change to servers to help the biggest communities on the app continue to grow even further. In its monthly update blog, the company revealed that the limit on how many members can join a server was increased from 500,000 to a massive 2.5 million.
