Despite Hearsay, We Remain Active

"Despite Hearsay, We Remain Active"

Death Grips have dispelled rumors of their breakup, posting on Instagram and Twitter that “Despite rumor and hearsay we remain active as Death Grips.” They’ve also seemingly parted ways with longtime member and keyboardist Andy Morin.

The breakup speculation began in February when a leaked conversation between Morin and an anonymous Instagram user signaled that the group was “over.” “Stefan [A.K.A. MC Ride] doesn’t want to do anymore,” Morin wrote, “But truthfully none of us can ever predict what happens with the group.”

Today, however, Death Grips posted a photo of a framed painting with “Despite rumor and hearsay we remain active as Death Grips” scribbled on it, credited to Stefan and Zach [Hill]. They haven’t revealed anything more concrete about 2025 plans or beyond, but the photo being signed by just MC Ride and Hill points to Death Grips carrying on as a duo for the first time since their inception in 2010.

Death Grips were last active in 2023, when they embarked on their first tour in four years. That tour was a success for the group, though they did walk off stage early at a Fayetteville, Arkansas gig because the audience kept pelting them with glow sticks. They haven’t released a new album since 2018’s Year of the Snitch.
