DEMI Moore was a no-show at her film distributor’s Oscars after-party, where she had planned to celebrate her Best Actress win – following her shocking loss to Mikey Madison.
Demi, 62, appeared gracious despite missing out on her first golden statuette on Sunday night for her performance in The Substance.
She was beaten by Mikey, 25, who won for her role in Anora, which won five gongs in total for Best Picture, Best Editing, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Actress.
Demi was expected to attend a bash at Soho House Holloway in West Hollywood which celebrated her movie.
“It ended up being a bit of a sad affair as The Substance was expected to win big,” a source said.
The party was hosted by arthouse distributor and streamer MUBI, which bought the worldwide rights to The Substance after it was originally set up at Universal.
But despite being on the list to attend with fellow cast and crew, Demi skipped the party altogether, according to sources.
Her loss was also the talk of the bash with many feeling disappointed for her that she didn’t clinch the big award.
She had become the front-runner for the gong following best lead actress prizes at the Golden Globes, Critics’ Choice Awards, and SAG Awards
One insider told The U.S. Sun, “It was set to be an intimate but fun celebration in the back room of the venue with Demi being the star of the party.
“There was a free bar and catering with different meat dishes and fancy desserts, along with a photographer.
They all felt this was Demi’s year and everything was lined up for her to win.”
Insider on her Oscars loss
“Other celebrities were on the list, but it ended up being a very quiet affair and Demi didn’t show up in the end.
“Everyone was gutted for her, and some guests even talked about how the camera panned to her immediately after Mikey won to see her reaction.
“They all felt this was Demi’s year and everything was lined up for her to win after such an amazing comeback and her success at awards ceremonies before the Oscars.”
Nordisk Film Production and Lava Films were also involved in organizing the soiree which jointly celebrated the Danish film, The Girl With the Needle.
Despite Demi skipping the bash, a second source said the hair and beauty team from The Substance did make an appearance after winning an Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling.
They said the team took photos with their Oscar and were thrilled with their win, adding, “It was such a cute moment.”
Demi previously spoke about the possibility of losing on Sunday.
She told The New York Times, “Whatever happens, I just keep focusing on remembering not to make it mean too much, but also not to make it mean too little. But I can enjoy all of it.”
Mikey heaped praise on Demi and others during her acceptance speech, saying, “I also just want to recognize the thoughtful, intelligent, beautiful, breathtaking work of my fellow nominees.
“I’m honored to be recognized alongside all of you.”
Anora’s big win at the Oscars was a surprise to many and creator Sean Baker made history by winning all four of his nominated categories – including Best Director, Best Picture, and Original Screenplay.
DISAPPOINTED FANS
But while many loved Anora, Demi’s fans were devastated by the loss.
“Demi Moore losing to Mikey Madison is basically the plot of the Substance,” one wrote on X.
Another added, “The layers of irony to this year’s race as it relates to The Substance with Demi Moore losing to a younger actress. It’s kinda sad.”
A third also posted, “I feel so bad for demi. That was pretty much her last chance at an oscar and she lost to someone 40 years younger than her which was basically the premise of the tole she was nominated for.”
Demi made a brief appearance at the Vanity Fair party but sources claim she quickly headed off to party with friends away from prying eyes after the crushing defeat.
The U.S. Sun has learned she went on to Madonna‘s ultra-private bash at the star’s manager Guy Oseary’s lavish home in the Hollywood Hills.
Guy has been a close friend of Demi’s for many years.
Known as “The Party,” the bash was co-sponsored by Gucci and also attended by actress Mikey, who was on cloud nine after winning her first Oscar.
While the party ran until 2 am, Demi called it a night earlier and was pictured on social media wearing a bathrobe and cuddling her dog with two big plates of fries in front of her.
Her daughter Tallulah, 31, shared the sweet pic of her mom on Instagram, writing, “MY winner,” along with an emoji of French fries.
Demi’s daughter Scout, 33, also reposted the image, writing, “Queen of my heart!”
She also shared a message to her mom on her Instagram Stories, writing, “So beyond proud, this woman is nothing but integrity, bright beaming light and love! What grace. I’ve never been more proud to be her daughter.”
