Up-and-coming British actor David Jonsson has one of the biggest roles of his career on the horizon, as the Industry and Alien: Romulus breakout is set to star as the iconic Sammy Davis Jr. Not only that, but it’ll be opposite Sydney Sweeney as Davis Jr’s lover Kim Novak in the directorial debut from Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo.

Speaking to BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast ahead of the release of his latest film The Long Walk, David Jonsson teased his role as Sammy Davis Jr in Colman Domingo’s Scandalous! and sounded like an artist chomping at the bit to begin the project.

Jonsson told us he’s “incredibly excited” about working with “wonderful humans’ in Sweeney and Domingo.

“First and foremost, I find both of those wonderful human beings [Colman Domingo and Sydney Sweeney] are incredibly exciting, and I do think that they’re inspiring in many ways. I didn’t any readings [audition] — I actually just met with them, and we spoke about it for a long time,” Jonsson told BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast.

“We spoke about what we wanted to do and playing an icon like Sammy Davis Jr. is no small feat. But also playing Kim Novak, which Sydney is wonderfully gonna inhabit, we had to talk about these things. You talk about these things through the eyes of ourselves, and as people making our way — including Colman, by the way — in Hollywood, you have quote-unquote experiences that are almost akin to the people we’re about to inhabit,” he continued.

“Setting that groundwork really just means that you build trust before you can do the best work. For me, it’s all about trust — once I’ve got trust, I can do something. So, I’m excited.”

Jonsson will next be seen starring in The Long Walk from Francis Lawrence, the direct of films such as Constantine, I Am Legend, and a handful of films in The Hunger Games franchise.

In addition to Jonsson, The Long Walk also stars Cooper Hoffman, Garrett Wareing, Joshua Odjick, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill.
