Boy Meets World star Danielle Fishel has shared that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The actress revealed the news on a recent episode of the Pod Meets World podcast. “I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which stands for ductal carcinoma in situ, which is a form of breast cancer,” she explained.
Fortunately, the cancer was caught “very, very, very early,” as Fishel put it. She plans on undergoing surgery and is highly optimistic about the future of her health.
As Fishel explained to her podcast co-hosts and former Boy Meets World co-stars Will Friedle and Rider Strong, she initially planned on keeping the diagnosis to herself. Ultimately, however, she chose to share it in hopes of inspiring others to keep tabs on their health and schedule their yearly mammograms.
“They found it so, so, so early that I’m going to be fine. So, I want to share this because I hope that it will encourage anyone to get in there,” Fishell said, stressing the importance of such routine procedures. “The only reason I caught this cancer when it is still stage zero is because the day I got my text message that my yearly mammogram had come up, I made the appointment.”
