Dani Girdwood, Charlotte Fassler to Direct ‘Your Fault: London’

Directors Charlotte Fassler (L) and Dani Girdwood (R) also known as 'Similar But Different'

EXCLUSIVE: Dani Girdwood and Charlotte Fassler, the directors of My Fault: London, will be back behind the camera for the follow-up movie, Your Fault: London.

The Amazon Prime Video films are the English-language take on the smash-hit Spanish-language Culpables movies, adapted from Mercedes Ron’s Wattpad novels. The streamer has just greenlit Your Fault: London and Our Fault: London, meaning the trilogy will be complete in English as well as Spanish.

Girdwood and Fassler have now signed on for the second movie, Deadline understands. With the duo returning, the gang have gotten back together. Asha Banks and Matthew Broome are already confirmed to reprise their roles as Noah and Nick, characters first made famous on-screen by Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara in the Spanish movies.

Transposing the Culpables action to the English capital has worked well for Prime Video. Girdwood and Fassler’s first movie retained the key ingredients of Ron’s books and the Spanish film adaptation that went before, namely a teen romance that endures its ups and downs against a heady backdrop of big houses, parties and fast cars.

The directing pair, who also work under the ‘Similar But Different’ moniker, started out in commercials and music videos. My Fault: London was their feature directorial debut.

They spoke to Deadline about the first movie before it launched on streaming in Feb. “We hope that the fanbase will enjoy what we’ve added to that universe, and that it is offering a different flavor of something that is so loved,” Fassler said.

Prime Video leads the way in the YA space with the Culpables movies as well as titles such as The Summer I Turned Pretty, We Were Liars, and Maxton Hall. These series and movies deliver the streamer a valuable demo that skews both young and female.

Banijay Iberia’s Pokeepsie Films produces the Spanish Culpables movies, which are directed by Domingo González. My Fault: London was produced by 42.

Culpa Mía was a hit and the second movie in the trilogy, Culpa Tuya, was Prime Video’s biggest ever international original launch. The three-picture series ends with Culpa Nuestra, which launches later this year. The trailer for that title is the most-watched ever for a streaming movie.
