This is probably not a new story to you. In 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery shelved Coyote vs. Acme, a fully completed movie that was, by all accounts, testing very well with audiences. Worse, Coyote vs. Acme was canceled by Warner Bros. Discovery for tax break purposes. In a way, it became a symbol for many of the shenanigans that Warner Bros. Discovery and other streamers seemed to be pulling. What could be more antithetical to the creative process than destroying the finished work of hundreds of creators who had poured countless hours into a movie simply to save a few dollars here and there? The news created a large public outcry by fans and creators. And for a while, Warner Bros. Discovery said they were shopping the movie around. But it seemed like Coyote vs. Acme would never see the light of day. But now a new report indicates that Coyote vs. Acme may get a release—if a deal to sell it to Ketchup Entertainment goes through.
We bet everyone would be really happy to see this deal go through, and that includes fans, the movie’s creative team, and Warner Bros. Discovery. If Coyote vs. Acme could just release into the world, then it might feel like a wound of a kind has been healed. Reports indicate that Ketchup Entertainment is negotiating for the acquisition of all rights to Coyote vs. Acme movie, and the negotiations are in the $50 million range. Ketchup also rescued The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie from never seeing the light of day.
In case you haven’t heard of Coyote vs. Acme, the Looney Tunes film is a live-action hybrid starring Will Forte, John Cena, and Lana Condor. The movie revolved around a court case in which Wile E. Coyote sues the Acme company after decades of having their products fail to help him capture that pesky Road Runner. He forms a friendship with his lawyer (Will Forte) as they go against the Acme Company’s legal representation, played by John Cena. James Gunn was actually a producer on the movie. Forte shared that the movie was actually “incredible.”
Will Coyote vs. Acme actually release in movie theaters? Only time will tell, but it sure would be wonderful if it did.
