In April, to promote his new MAX series Conan O’Brien Must Go, the beloved former late-night TV host and Saturday Night Live/The Simpsons writer went on the popular YouTube show Hot Ones.
O’Brien’s appearance on the show was so electric that it resulted in a days-long celebration of Conan on social media, with many fans sharing their favorite bits and jokes of his over the years.
What made O’Brien’s Hot Ones interview so unique is that he, perhaps more so than any guest, embraced the fear and pain of the hot sauces, and he wound up just taking sips directly from the bottle and dousing his wings in more sauce than required.
Speaking on his own podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend, earlier this week, O’Brien comically detailed what his body went through in the aftermath, joking that he had bowel movements so intense that they could’ve been used to weld steel beams on a construction site.
“After I ingested all that, I wanted it to be useful, so I found a construction site where they were doing spot welding and I said to them, ‘Gentlemen, if you want, I can weld these girders for you in about 15 minutes. You’ll need to avert your eyes, because I’ll be dropping my pants,’” O’Brien joked.
“So, there’s a building in the mid-Wilshire district that’s going up and I think I did about 65 rivets. And people were driving by and saying, ‘That’s Conan O’Brien and his pants are around his ankles and I think fire is shooting out of his ass and he’s welding a building.’”
Premiering on MAX on April 18 (which is actually Conan’s birthday), Conan O’Brien Must Go sees Conan “travel around the world to surprise his most memorable fans while taking in local culture, cuisine, and sights,” according to the streamer.
The first season of Conan O’Brien Must Go consisted of four episodes, with Conan visiting Norway, Thailand, Argentina, and Ireland.
