Coheed and Cambria were presented with the key to their hometown, the village of Nyack, New York, and performed an acoustic set on Sunday (April 13th).
The commemoration took place during the SpringFest Street Fair at the Hezekiah Easter Veterans Memorial Park. There, Nyack’s mayor Joe Rand and chamber of commerce trustee Tristan Dunnigan gave the guitar-shaped Key to the Village to Coheed frontman Claudio Sanchez. April 13th was also declared “Coheed and Cambria Day” in Nyack.

“Nyack has brought so many interesting and creative people together,” said Claudio during his acceptance speech, in which he reflected on his youth growing up in the village and attending Nyack High School.

It was there that Coheed got their start as part of a weekly youth event sponsored by the Nyack Center called the Backdoor, which allowed the band to perform to an audience of fellow youths from around the Tri-State area. The band still have lasting connections to Nyack, with Claudio owning a house there and lead guitarist Travis Stever residing in the village full-time with his family (Stever’s wife serves on the board of the Nyack Park Conservancy).
“Thank you so much, it means a lot,” Sanchez said at the end of his speech. “Beautiful town to grow up in. Thank you very much, we’re gonna play.”
Coheed then performed a short acoustic set under the gazebo of the park, running through songs such as “A Favor House Atlantic,” “Someone Who Can,” “Goodbye, Sunshine,” and “Corner My Confidence.”
It’s just one of dozens of live sets Coheed will play throughout 2025, as the band currently has two major tours on the books: a spring run with Mastodon and a late-summer outing with Taking Back Sunday. Get tickets here.
