Declassified CIA documents reveal the U.S. government’s lengthy search for the fabled Noah’s Ark from the Bible. They also reveal how the government repeatedly denied access to any images of the area that were taken by satellites and spy planes during those searches, claiming the images were classified.
Noah’s Ark is massive boat that is discussed in the Book of Genesis in the Bible. The ark was supposedly constructed by Noah after God warned him of an impending worldwide flood. Noah, his family, and one pair of every animal species in the world were loaded on to the boat. They were to be placed there in order to survive a rainstorm lasting 40 days and 40 nights while God cleansed the Earth of the wickedness of humanity.
For decades, if not centuries, people have been searching for Noah’s Ark. Among those people, apparently, were some within the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Declassified CIA documents reveal that the U.S. government has been interested in a location 18 miles south of Mount Ararat in Turkey. In the Bible, Genesis 8:4 reads, “And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.”
These CIA documents also reveal that the U.S. government has been searching for Noah’s Ark around Mount Ararat since at least 1957. From 1974 to 1982, the CIA used images from satellites and spy planes after the Director of Central Intelligence requested a search evidence of the Ark at that location.
Lt. Col. Walter Brown, a high ranking official in the U.S. Air Force, also requested that the CIA develop and advanced technology looking for satellite photography of Mount Ararat, DailyMail.com reports. This request was made to determine “whether any evidence of the Ark could be found.”
Over the next eight years, the CIA documented 10 more requests from high-profile individuals with ties to the government about Mt. Ararat and Noah’s Ark.
This included members of Congress, a former astronaut, and several officials from the DCI’s Intelligence Community Staff.
Repeated Freedom of Information Act requests for the surveillance photos of the area that were taken by the CIA were denied despite the government claiming there was no evidence that Noah’s Ark had been found.
In March, Mount Ararat was the same location that scientists from Istanbul Technical University, Agri Ibrahim Cecen University, and Andrews University in the United States claimed to be the location of fossilized remains of a massive vessel.
“Our studies show that this region harbored life in that period and that, at some point, it was covered by water, which reinforces the possibility that a catastrophic event of great magnitude occurred,” the scientists stated.
So does the CIA know more about the location of Noah’s Ark, much like the Ark of the Covenant, than they have been letting on? We may never know.
