Quiver Distribution has unveiled the trailer for its Walter Hill Western Dead for a Dollar, fronted by two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz (The French Dispatch), which is slated for release in theaters on September 30th, after making its world premiere as an official selection of the Venice Film Festival on the 6th.
Dead for a Dollar follows a famed bounty hunter (Waltz) who runs into his sworn enemy (Willem Dafoe), a professional gambler and outlaw that he had sent to prison years before, while on a mission to find and return the wife (Rachel Brosnahan) of a successful businessman who is being held hostage in Mexico. Standing in the way is an infamous gangster (Benjamin Bratt) who gets a piece of any action that happens along the Mexican border.
Dead for a Dollar‘s cast also includes Brandon Scott, Warren Burke, Hamish Linklater and Guy Burnet. Berry Meyerowitz, Neil Dunn, Carolyn McMaster, Kirk D’Amico and Jeremy Wall produced the film penned by Hill, with Waltz, Jeff Sackman, Larry Greenberg, Lawrence Mortorff and Alex Habrich exec producing. Quiver Distribution helped arrange for the film’s financing, and packaged it alongside Canadian production company Chaos a Film Company, with Myriad Pictures repping international distribution rights.
Ahead of his film’s Out of Competition debut in Venice, Hill will be honored with the festival’s Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award, dedicated to a personality who has made a particularly original contribution to the contemporary film industry. The 79th edition of the fest is already in motion, taking place from August 31 to September 10.
