The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Christine McGuinness is reminding fans and social media followers to stop and smell the roses. McGuinness, 36, shared a video of herself wearing a black tank top, hiking through beautiful green hills with a smile on her face. “Whatever makes you uncomfortable is your biggest opportunity for growth 🌱 Get out of your head and out of your comfort zone, there is a big beautiful world out there for you to enjoy 🌍,” she captioned the post. Here’s how McGuinness stays fit, healthy, and happy.
McGuinness mixes up her workouts depending on how she feels. “I like to do a variation of cardio, HIIT and weights,” she told Women Fitness. I don’t stick to a routine; I do whatever I’m in the mood for that day. On days that I feel like doing nothing I will pop the baby in the pram and go for a long walk so I am still doing some gentle exercise. When I have had a good night’s sleep and feel like I’ve got plenty of energy then I will interval run followed by some abdominal workouts. I love to train my core.”
McGuinness’ diet is focused on greens and proteins. “At the minute I’m eating avocado with almost everything!” she told Women Fitness. “Avocado with egg, avocado with chicken, avocado smash bagel. It’s healthy and filling, it does contain fats but good fats. I do have a sweet tooth; I allow myself treats in moderation, mainly weekends. When I’m craving sugar I reach for the fruit bowl or a mixed veg and fruit smoothie.”
McGuinness lost weight during the pandemic lockdowns and wasn’t happy about it. “I haven’t lost fat, I’ve lost muscle, so I’m disappointed,” she told The Mirror. “I don’t want to lose weight, that’s not my goal. I want to gain muscle. I can tell my clothes are bigger. I don’t feel as strong, my thighs aren’t as big as they were. My goal is to be strong, not just slim. I want some shape and that’s why I go to the gym. When I’m lifting weights, I feel stronger.”
McGuinness loves to hula hoop as part of her workout routine. “Hula hooping can provide similar results to other types of aerobic activities, such as dancing — including salsa, hula, belly and swing dancing,” says Edward Laskowski, M.D. for the Mayo Clinic. “On average, women can burn about 165 calories in 30 minutes of hula hooping, and men can burn about 200 calories in 30 minutes of hula hooping.”
McGuinness lives by a very straightforward wellness philosophy. “Find time to work out regularly, even if it’s just 30 minutes a day,” she told Women Fitness. “Put it into your daily routine so that time is dedicated to you, for you. Listen to your body, rest when you need to and train harder when you feel you can, make every second count. Drink water, water and more water. Find exercise you enjoy otherwise it will feel like a chore. Whether it’s running, walking, dancing or swimming. Just get moving! Love your body whilst you’re working for the one that you want. Your health is important, look after you.”
