Chris Rock is set to make history next year as the first comedian to perform live on Netflix. In a press release shared with POPSUGAR, the streamer announced on Nov. 10 that the legendary comic will host his second comedy special on the platform for its first-ever live global streaming event. Rock previously debuted his “Tamborine” Netflix special in February 2018.

“Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation,” said Robbie Praw, Netflix Vice President of Stand-up and Comedy Formats, in a statement. “We’re thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history. This will be an unforgettable moment and we’re so honored that Chris is carrying this torch.”

It seems Rock may be another comedian who will make Netflix the home of his future specials. Others who have released multiple stand-ups with the streamer include Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Mike Epps, Jerry Seinfeld, and Amy Schumer.

Following his infamous Oscars slap incident earlier this year, Rock has kept busy with his own Ego Death world comedy tour, as well as other joint shows with Hart and Chappelle — who he’s currently on the road with. A date for Rock’s live Netflix special has not yet been announced, but the streamer confirms it will in happen early 2023.
