Chris Evans Tapped By Lucy Liu To Rescue Santa Claus

UPDATE, Sept. 22: A second trailer for Red One opens with a team of taser-wielding intruders, led by Lucy Liu, who kidnap Chris Evans’ bounty hunter character on a top secret mission to rescue Santa Claus alongside Dwayne Johnson.

“I’m not gonna like you,” Evans says upon meeting Johnson. “I can tell right away. Out of everyone here, I like you the least.”

The “race to save Christmas” film’s new spot also includes glimpses at action figure-powered battle sequences and a villainous Kiernan Shipka, who definitely looks like she knows where code name Red One is. A new poster for the missing Saint Nick, portrayed by a lean J.K. Simmons, is below.

PREVIOUSLY, June 25: Amazon MGM Studios on Tuesday dropped the first trailer for Red One, its long teased holiday event film from director Jake Kasdan (Jumanji franchise), which stars Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans.

While plot details had been under wraps to this point, the story will pick up after Santa Claus – Code Name: RED ONE – is kidnapped. Subsequently, the North Pole’s Head of Security (Johnson) must team up with the world’s most infamous bounty hunter (Evans) in a globe-trotting, action-packed mission to save Christmas.

The film will be released in U.S. theaters on November 15 and will roll out worldwide via Warner Bros Pictures over the course of the same month.

Previously touted as a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre, Red One is based on an original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production Hiram Garcia, which Amazon landed after a competitive bidding war and went on to develop.

Penning the screenplay was Seven Bucks’ frequent collaborator Chris Morgan, who previously worked with the company on numerous films out of the Fast & Furious universe. Producers on the film include Kasdan and Melvin Mar via The Detective Agency, Morgan via Chris Morgan Productions, and Hiram Garcia, Dany Garcia and Dwayne Johnson via Seven Bucks Productions. The Detective Agency’s Sky Salem Robinson co-produced.

The Amazon Original reunites Kasdan, Johnson and Seven Bucks Productions following their blockbuster successes with Sony’s Jumanji films Welcome to the Jungle and The Next Level, which have earned a collective global gross of $1.7 billion. Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Wesley Kimmel and J.K. Simmons also star.
