Child star Sophie Nyweide ‘was using drugs & died with other people’ as mom reveals her autopsy could take 8 weeks

ACTRESS Sophie Nyweide was taking drugs and died with other people, her devastated mom has revealed. 

The child star, best known for her roles in Mammoth and An Invisible Sign, died on April 14 in Vermont at the age of 24.

Her cause of death remains unknown, but mom Shelly told TMZ her daughter was a “tiny woman.”

And, she claimed that Nyweide had been using drugs before her death. 

“She was with other people when she died,” Shelly told the outlet. 

“I didn’t know them.”

And, her family revealed that they could be waiting months for her autopsy results.

“They say it would take 6-8 weeks,” Shelly said.

In an online obit, Nyweide’s family spoke of the trauma and shame that she was dealing with.

“She repeatedly said she would ‘handle it’ on her own,” they said.

Nyweide’s first acting role was in the 2006 flick Bella, which featured the likes of Eduardo Verastegui, Tammy Blanchard and Manny Perez.

She played Jackie Vidales in the 2009 movie Mammoth, directed by Lukas Moodysson.

Nyweide starred alongside Gael Garcia Bernal and Michelle Williams in the romance-drama movie.

And, she played Lisa Venus in An Invisible Sign – a movie which featured Jessica Alba.

Nyweide’s final roles were in the 2014 movie Noah and an episode of the TV series Primetime: What Would You Do?

She also appeared in an episode of Law & Order in 2007.

Shelly revealed that her daughter was always well treated when on movie sets.

“She seemed happiest on a movie set, becoming someone else,” her family said.

“It was a safe place for her and she relish from the casts and crews who nourished her talent and her well being.”

Nyweide also enjoyed being athletic and creative, according to the online obit.

“She was an eager adventurer and picked up the customs and even languages of any place she visited,” her family said.

She turned to snowboarding at the age of five because she wanted to copy her brother.

They also revealed she was a “kind and trusting” girl and hailed her passion and zest.

The day after Nyweide’s death, Shelly shared a touching tribute on social media.

It was an extract from a poem titled The Gift of You.

“I didn’t give you the gift of life, but in my heart I know,” the first line in the extract said.

“The love I feel is as deep and real as if it had been so.

“For us to have each other is like a dream come true.

“No I didn’t give you the gift of life. Life gave me the gift of you.”

Shelly said her love for her daughter ran “so deep and true.”

Nyweide’s obituary revealed donations  in her name can be made to RAINN.
