CHER has reportedly filed to have her younger son Elijah Blue Allman put under conservatorship due to alleged mental health issues.
The singer, 77, has been fearing for his drug addiction after he was left unable to “manage his own financial resources”.
The application for the conservatorship emerged across the pond on Wednesday, months after a divorce court filing accused Cher of previously attempting an intervention.
The filing, from Elijah’s wife Marieangela King, stated the mother-of-two as said to have sent four men to remove the 47-year-old from a hotel room.
But now, court documents obtained by People revealed she has applied to be a sole conservator for Allman’s estate, due to “severe mental health and substance abuse issues”.
If granted, it would allow Cher to take over all legal responsibilities for her son.
The document, which was filed at Los Angeles Superior Court, also revealed that the Believe singer is concerned any money her son receives from the trust set up by his father, musician Gregg Allman, would be “spent on drugs”.
The filing reportedly reads: “Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Trust, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, [Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will be immediately spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk.”
In recent posts to social media, Allman has spoken out against conservatorship in hashtags, calling the possible ruling an “imprisonment” as fans reached out over his wellbeing.
He has previously spoken out about his drug addiction, and in 2014 admitted to Entertainment Tonight that he had used heroin and painkillers, but was since sober.
He married Marieangela in 2013 before filing for divorce in 2021, with papers revealing that he had been placed in a treatment facility.
