Charli XCX Thinks Her Next Album "Will Probably Be a Flop"

Charli XCX has been honest this year about the challenge of following-up her immensely successful 2024 album Brat, and in a new interview, she’s already embracing the idea of a new album not meeting expectations.

“I don’t really feel the pressure to create another record like Brat because when I was making it, even though I really believed in it and totally knew what I wanted to do with it, I had no idea how it would be received,” Charli XCX told Culted at Cannes Film Festival this week. “I was really doing it for myself and marketing it in the way I wanted to for myself but I had no clue that people would kind of connect to it in the way that they did. So yeah, I don’t really feel the pressure because I feel that you can never really do the same thing twice, and my next record will probably be a flop, which I’m down for to be honest.”

While Charli’s next musical endeavor will be a lot to live up to, as her Cannes appearance would suggest, she’s currently kicking off her film era right now. In addition to handfuls of other projects, she’s got an A24 movie called The Moment in the works. Revisit why we named Brat our top album of 2024 (it really was that good).
