Charli XCX and Lorde have teamed up for a new remix of the Brat song, “Girl, so confusing.”
Reimagining the A. G. Cook-produced track as a duet, the new version of “Girl, so confusing” marks the first time Charli XCX and Lorde have officially collaborated — a big moment, considering the murmurs that the original song was about Lorde.
Fans speculated that the lyrical allusions to another artist — like “People say we’re alike/ They say we’ve got the same hair” — were aimed at Lorde, partially in reference to a long-running in-joke among fans about mistaking Charli for her. Additionally, Charli has recently commented on the culture of female celebrities and their relationships, and even revealed that she was “super jealous” of Lorde’s success after “Royals.”
Now, though, the artists appear to be on good terms. Even before the remix was announced, Lorde expressed admiration for Charli and Brat, posting on Instagram that it’s the “only album I’ve ever pre-saved” and that it’s an honor “to be moved, changed, and gagged by her work.”
