Charles Barkley does not have any beef with San Antonio but San Antonio has a longstanding beef with him. Even though he loves the city, he cannot stop trolling its women.
The 62-year-old Hall of Famer went after them, yet again, at the Final Four over the weekend.
For those who are not aware of the bit, let me very quickly catch you up. This whole thing started almost two decades ago when Charles Barkley made a comment about the “big ole women down in San Antonio” while discussing the Spurs on Inside the NBA. It has been a recurring bit for 15+ years and it comes up more often than you might think. Here is a 45-minute (!!) compilation of his repeated jabs:
As you could imagine, the women of San Antonio did not appreciate the disparaging jokes.
Tim Duncan’s girlfriend famously fired back at Barkley with a very simple message written on her shirt.
It got to the point that a woman by the name of Abby Lentz wrote a four-page article to condemn the discriminatory comments. She published her criticism through a nonprofit organization called the ‘Obesity Action Coalition’ in 2015. Cancel culture later reached its peak in 2021, which led Warner Bros. to ask Barkley to stop.
If you crack a joke the wrong way, they’re like no, no, no you crossed the line…
I mean they won’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore, when I’m always talking about their big ole’ women down in San Antonio, they’re like one lady wrote an article and I’m like first of all I didn’t call anybody personally fat in San Antonio, I was just joking around…
So you’re going to let this one lady, we’ve been having fun with this for 10-15 years!
— Charles Barkley
He did not stop! The jokes keep coming.
Charles Barkley made his long-awaited return to San Antonio over the weekend for the Final Four. Mayor Ron Nirenberg was waiting for him.

Auburn center Dylan Cardwell said that he “had not seen any of the women that Charles Barkley was talking about” upon arrival to town.
After arriving in San Antonio, Auburn head coach Bruce Pearl told players to get out on the River Walk and experience San Antonio and “enjoy what they’ve earned”

Barkley did not see things the same way as Cardwell. He got up in front of a large crowd at the fan fest and started his address by praising the city for its food, its culture and its hospitality.
And then it happened. Barkley brought up the “big women” in San Antonio. Except he didn’t say women.
At this point, there is no stopping him. Charles Barkley will continue to drive home his point until the day that he dies. The more that the big ole women of San Antonio push back, the more he keeps coming!
