Perhaps nobody in the music industry has risen to superstardom in the last year as quickly as Chappell Roan.

The 26-year-old pop icon has flown up the charts thanks to hits such as “Hot To Go” and “Red Wine Supernova.”

But fame isn’t always all that it’s cracked up to be, and unfortunately Roan has learned his the hard way. She released a pair of TikTok‘s recently decrying her lack of privacy and calling out

“I need you to answer questions. Just answer my questions for a second,” she says in the first video. “If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from the car window? Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and say ‘can I get a photo with you?’”

Roan went on to say that she’s just a random b—-. Which is a wild thing to believe when you’re name and music are all over the internet.

She gets much more serious in the second video, which addresses the lifestyle that comes with being a celebrity.

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever is a normal thing to do to people who are famous or a little famous, whatever,” she said. “I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, or the career field I’ve chosen, that does not make it OK. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. That doesn’t mean that I like it.”

“I don’t want whatever the f— you think you’re supposed to be entitled to. Whenever you see a celebrity, f— if you think it’s selfish for me to say no for a photo or for your time, or for a hug,” Roan continued. “That’s not normal. That’s weird. It’s weird how people think that you know a person just because you see them online and you listen to the art they make. That’s fucking weird. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior.”

On one hand, she makes a great point. People are way too weird about celebrities and believe they’re entitled to far to much information and control over their lives.

But there is also a bargain you make when you become a celebrity. You get fame and fortune and a lifestyle that many could only dream of. In exchange, you have far less privacy than the average person does.

That’s the gambit.

Some stars handle it better than others. Some have managed to lead remarkably private lives given their celebrity status. But things will never be “normal,” and that’s just going to take some getting used to.
