Celine Dion look poised to make her live comeback at the 2024 Paris Olympics, according to a report from Variety.
While not yet confirmed, Dion is rumored to be making an appearance during the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris on Friday. She was spotted arriving in the city on Monday (July 22nd), and is said to be staying at the same hotel as Lady Gaga, who is also rumored to be performing during the opening ceremony.
Details of any performance are still under wraps, but Dion’s connection to France is strong. Born in Quebec, Dion is credited for introducing many listeners to French music. In an April cover story with Vogue France, Dion shared, “My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again.”
The Grammy winner is in the midst of an ongoing battle with stiff-person syndrome, and has said that singing with the condition feels like “somebody’s strangling you.” However, in her recent documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, the singer promised to return to the stage, saying, “If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. I won’t stop.”
That goal may become a reality on Friday, when the opening ceremony of the Olympics takes place outside of a stadium for the first time in history. Instead, things will kick off with a parade along the Seine, which is set to conclude across the river from the iconic Eiffel Tower.
In 1996, Celine Dion celebrated the start of the Atlanta Olympics with a performance of “The Power of the Dream.” This year’s opening ceremony can be viewed on NBC or Peacock starting at 7:30 p.m. ET.
