Ceiling Collapses During ‘Final Destination Bloodlines’ Showing

The Final Destination franchise has perfected the art of unlocking new fears for the many people who’ve been traumatized by one of its death scenes. However, one moviegoer in Argentina got more than she bargained for when the ceiling of the theater where she was watching the newest installment gave way in the middle of the movie.

It’s been 25 years since the first Final Destination movie hit theaters and spawned the creation of a franchise that revolves around characters who’ve managed to dodge a brush with death only to find themselves picked off one by one in incidents where they meet a grisly fate.

Many of the set pieces are over-the-top deaths featuring a series of unfortunate events that ultimately lead to a character dying in gruesome fashion. With that said, they also tend to be grounded in reality, and the movies frequently elevate the terror by harnessing situations that could theoretically unfold in real life.

If you find yourself frantically passing a truck hauling locks on the highway whenever you end up behind one, Final Destination 2 is probably the reason why.

There are now six films in the franchise in the wake of the release of Final Destination Bloodlines, which was released earlier this month to largely positive reviews and has already grossed over $185 million worldwide on a $50 million budget.

According to Infobae, some people in Argentina contributed to that total when they went to see the film at a movie theater in the city of La Plata on May 19th only to find themselves thrust into their own version of a Final Destination situation.

Fiamma Villaverde said she decided to take her 11-year-old daughter to the movie on a whim, and it was nearing its conclusion when they heard a “really loud noise” they initially assumed came from the speakers before a piece of the ceiling fell down and hit her while striking her shoulder, back, knee, and ankle.

Villaverde said the chunk narrowly missed her head because of the angle she was sitting, and while she wasn’t seriously injured, she was understandably less than thrilled that she was forced to endure the situation in the first place (the outlet notes heavy rain in the area in the days leading up to the incident may have been a contributing factor, but the theater has not issued an official explanation).

Thankfully, the rules of the Final Destination universe don’t apply in real life, although it would be hard to blame her for not rushing back to the theater.
