On Sunday, April 14, CBS aired Billy Joel’s 100th residency concert at Madison Square Garden, which was filmed back in March during the singer’s record-breaking 100th consecutive performance of his residency at the Garden.
Unfortunately for fans, however, the network decided to cut away from the broadcast to their various local news stations in the midst of Joel’s iconic song “Piano Man,” which is also the curtain closer.
Viewers throughout the Eastern and Central Time Zones had the broadcast of the Billy Joel concert cut off, mid-Piano Man.

To be clear, this wasn’t Joel’s 100th-ever concert at MSG — he accomplished that back in 2018 with Bruce Springsteen in tow. Joel’s residency has consisted of playing one show a month since January 2014. In 2006, Joel also performed at the Garden for 12 consecutive nights.
This summer, Joel will be playing his 150th-lifetime concert at The World’s Most Famous Arena, according to his official website:
Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. and legendary musician and MSG franchise Billy Joel announced today that the final show of Joel’s sold-out record-breaking residency at MSG will take place on Thursday, July 25, 2024, marking Joel’s 150th lifetime show at the venue. Joel’s MSG shows have redefined the concept of residency; the scope and ambition of Joel’s residency, where he has played once a month at Madison Square Garden, is unprecedented.
In addition to “Piano Man”, the 74-year-old native New Yorker is known for his hits “Scenes at an Italian Restaurant”, “Captain Jack”, “New York State of Mind”, “Movin’ Out”, “Only the Good Die Young”, “Uptown Girl”. “Vienna”, and many more.
Joel’s first-ever performance at Madison Square Garden came on December 14, 1978, which was the year after he released his popular and critical breakthrough album The Stranger.
