CARDI B has shared insight into why she won’t release a new album this year despite teasing the plan in previous months.
Despite a few singles, the rapper hasn’t dropped a full-length album since her 2018 blockbuster debut, Invasion of Privacy, which featured songs like Bodak Yellow and I Like It.
Cardi, 31, blamed her fans for the stagnant period in a series of since-deleted posts on X, formerly Twitter, this week.
The singer teased a new album while appearing on Complex’s 360 With Speedy last month, claiming that a new installment would arrive later this year.
But she seemingly backtracked on the statement in a scathing social media interaction with her followers.
The altercation kicked off with a fan posting a Tweet on Tuesday, joking about Cardi’s promises of a new album that have yet to come to fruition.
The user @Tyyrrell facetiously quoted the rapper, writing, “I’m so excited to put out new music.
“‘I can’t wait to drop my album. Wait until I drop this song. Album coming soon.'”
The fan accompanied the Tweet with a meme of two women rolling their eyes to clearly show he was mocking Cardi’s thinly veiled attempts at building suspense.
CARDI’S CLAP BACK
The mother of two was quick to clap back at the user, writing, “No, the problem is that you were even complaining when I was dropping music as well.
“Always got some s**t to say wit ur 3 neck rolls [sic].”
Cardi’s heated reply prompted others to join the conversation, with one asking, “Hollering cause you feel hit?”
The musician replied, “No it’s just annoying this means a lot to me and it’s always a complain and crying wit this p***y a** fanbase.”
The original critic chimed back in, writing, “Another thing is you know who is genuinely here for you, but hell, if they ever give their honest opinion.
“It’s the same thing that happened with Bavy. Like girl, get your head out of your a** be for real,” they added.
Cardi scathed back, “Girl shut up you not here for nobody but you boost your ego cause in real life you overlooked.
“Who you here for? For me? You the same b***h that complains for every single thing I do EACH THING, so you can’t be here for me but your own ego.
“You can’t gaslight me,” she quipped.
NO NEW ALBUM?
A third user joined the conversation, claiming, “She does this to make y’all fight, and y’all fall for it every time.
“The real tea is the album is nowhere near done and she’s blaming fans for her own incompetence.”
To this, Cardi replied in all caps, writing, “Yep it’s not done cause there is no album.
“Congrats, you won a prize for your answer. Here’s your prize,” she ripped, adding a middle finger emoji.
SHOWING SUPPORT
Others attempted to show support for the WAP singer, one penning, “It’s time for her to pull back from social media platforms.
“Her engagement with fans is unappreciated. Transparency backfires because of her fan’s weirdo entitlement.
“Cardi doesn’t have to interact with them, she chooses to and it’s never good enough for them,” they closed.
The rapper replied in agreement: ” Exactly. I tell myself this all the time, and I hate that I fall back and start interacting again, and it bites me in the a**.
“Anyway NO album this year I don’t care I’m relaxing this year ..Dropping these features I already committed to and traveling and enjoying my summer,” she claimed.
Who you here for? For me? You the same b***h that complains for every single thing I do EACH THING, so you can’t be here for me but your own ego.
Cardi B
MAJOR SETBACK
Another responded that they “kinda already knew that,” to which she added, “Good, well, now I’m confirming!!”
One of Cardi’s defenders chimed in to say, “Instead of celebrating a new achievement with Cardi, y’all wanna be negative.
“Always killing a happy moment.”
The New York native shot back, “That’s my thing like okay I get it talk your s**t but this is a big accomplishment for me and of course here comes Bardigang complaining like Deum [sic] I can’t celebrate s**t!”
BILLIONS CLUB
Fan controversy aside, Cardi recently joined the Spotify Billions Club, a milestone for artists who have achieved over a billion streams on the platform.
In her conversation with Speedy Morman last month, the rapper revealed that her next announcement will be an album.
“My next announcement will not be like a single type of shit. It will be my album cover,” she claimed.
“One single and y’all getting the album.”
