As the living subject of the next highly-anticipated musical biopic, Bruce Springsteen is applauding his onscreen counterpart’s performance.
Although he admitted it was “a little [weird] at first” seeing Jeremy Allen White play him in writer/director Scott Cooper‘s Deliver Me from Nowhere, ‘The Boss’ had nothing but praise for the 2x Golden Globe winner’s portrayal.
“But you get over that pretty quick,” he said on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio of the weird on-set experience. “And Jeremy is such a terrific actor that you just fall right into it. He’s got an interpretation of me that I think the fans will deeply recognize. He’s just done a great job, so I’ve had a lot of fun being on the set when I can get there.”
Springsteen also had positive reviews for White’s singing voice. “He sings well, he sings very well,” the 20x Grammy winner added. “And Jeremy Strong and Odessa Young, there’s just a tremendous cast of people. They cast the film beautifully, so it’s very exciting.”
White previously expressed his excitement to Deadline about taking on the role as he arrived at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards in September. “I’m so excited to start this thing. We’re going to start pretty soon/ You know, I don’t want to talk about it too much. It feels wrong before getting there and starting the thing,” he said.
“But I can say I’ve got a really beautiful team of people helping me and Bruce has been really lovely and supportive and available, which has made this whole process an extra joy,” added White. “His support and Jon Landau, his management support, who has a large role in the film as well. So I feel really lucky.”
Based on Warren Zanes’ 2023 book of the same name, Deliver Me from Nowhere recounts the making of Springsteen’s 1982 album Nebraska, recorded on a four-track cassette from his New Jersey bedroom. Springsteen and Landau are actively involved in the production.
In October, 20th Century Studios revealed a first look at White in character as Springsteen ahead of the biopic’s 2025 release.
