Singer Britney Spears is tired of making headlines.
On Thursday afternoon, the 41-year-old pop star took to Instagram to call out tabloids for circulating “constant lies” about her life, which she claims amounts to “borderline harassment.”
Britney Spears Says She ‘Deserves Respect’ Amid ‘Constant Lies’ And ‘Borderline Harassment’
On Thursday afternoon, the “Hold Me Closer” singer took to Instagram to share a clip from “The Andy Griffith Show.” In the clip, Griffith tells a young Ron Howard, “Just because somebody said something doesn’t mean it has to be printed. You don’t circulate stories that are mean and unkind about people. There are too many other stories to put in, nice stories.”
Howard responds, “When we put in the nice kinda stories, nobody wanted to buy the paper.”
In the caption, Britney wrote, “The constant lies from the media and TMZ have felt like borderline harassment … it’s extremely disturbing, due to the fact of how incredibly important it is at this time in my life to be supported and respected !!!”
“Also, the way the news has always spread lies about me is incredibly heartbreaking !!! I meditate over hope and excitement for my future !!!” she went on. “I have transformed my whole life with the elimination of my conservatorship and I deserve respect !!!”
“It’s almost embarrassing commenting on this because of how completely outrageous what’s being said is !!!” she added. “It’s my right to protect myself from the cruelty of the outside world !!!”
It’s true that Britney’s name has been making headlines recently. However, most of the headlines about her earlier today have been pretty positive.
Pink Says That Britney Is ‘The Sweetest Person In The World’
As reported by PEOPLE on Thursday morning, Pink had nothing but positive things to say about Britney. “People think I was picking on Britney on ‘Don’t Let Me Get Me’ but I’ve always felt like a big sister to her,” Pink said. “I’m very protective of her and she’s the sweetest person in the world.”
Although she said that they are not currently in touch, she added, “I wish her well. I cover her in light all day long.” The two got closer in 2004 when they sang Queen’s “We Will Rock You” together for a Pepsi Super Bowl commercial.
“What a weird deal that was. What the h—? Like, ‘What are we doing?’ ” Pink recalled. “Also, you’re Pepsi. You’re flying us to Rome to shoot in a fake coliseum down the street from the real Coliseum. Why are we here? We could have gone to Canada. I don’t understand. That’s Pepsi money. For a while, everything I saw that was really fancy, I was like, ‘That’s Pepsi money.’ It was bizarre.”
The two appeared in that commercial with Beyoncé, who Pink also had nothing but praise for. “Beyoncé is the prettiest person you could ever stand in front of. She glows like a goddess. She’s so f—ing talented, she’s a total pro — always has been — and always just the sweetest, gentlest person,” Pink said. “So for her to be that sweet, and that gentle, and then that f—ing fierce on stage is insane.”
However, it wasn’t Beyoncé, but Iggy Azalea, who is hoping to collaborate with Britney.
Iggy Azalea Says That She Is ‘In Touch’ With Britney Spears
On “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,” Iggy Azalea revealed that she does keep in contact with Britney, as reported by Page Six. “Yes, I have been in touch,” she said. “We talk on Instagram sometimes.”
The “Black Widow” rapper said that Britney has DMed her and she will “message her back and everything.” The two collaborated on their 2015 song “Pretty Girls” and she would definitely be ready to work with Britney again in the future.
“Would I be interested? Yes, of course,” she said. “My collaboration with her is always one of my favorite collaborations.”
“I just feel like there was so much we wanted to do with [‘Pretty Girls’] that we never got to. We never got to do all we wanted to do,” she said, noting that Britney was “limited” by her 13-year conservatorship, which ended in November 2021.
“She was so limited, obviously. And now that she has the ability to do it her way, [I would] 100 percent [work with her again],” she said. “I love Britney, and she is so much more creative than what people give her credit for.
“Like what she did with Elton [John] was amazing,” Azalea continued, referencing her “Hold Me Closer” duet with Sir Elton John. “I would love to be part of more of anything that she had to do, especially when they are 100 percent her own ideas.”
