A POTENTIAL Britney Spears biopic is still trying to find its leading lady, and has fans buzzing.
Actress Emma Roberts said it would be her “dream” to play the pop star, but fans were divided on the choice.

Emma Roberts, 33, talked with Cosmopolitan about her collaboration with Trainline, her must-reads, producing Tell Me Lies, and the rumors on whether she will be in the biopic.
“Speaking of book-to-screen adaptations, there was a huge headline about how Britney Spears’ assistant was pitching you to play her in the upcoming biopic,” the outlet asked.
“Did that news make it to your desk? How do you feel about it?”
“I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true,” the American Horror Story actress said.

“I mean, I remember I locked myself in my room and listened to In the Zone and said, ‘I cannot leave this room until I memorize every word.'”
Emma also said that she could recite the whole album from muscle memory because she sings Britney songs to her son in the bath “all the time.”
FANS DIVIDED
After the article was posted to X, fans were divided on whether the actress would be a good fit.
“Sorry, but she doesn’t have the range,” said one user.
“Who’s going to be the acting and singing?” another joked.
“I don’t see it,” added a third.
“Absolutely not. No. never,” said one passionate fan.
However, some fans said they would love to see the Scream Queens star play Britney, 42.
“I honestly wouldn’t be mad if Emma Roberts played Britney. I feel like she’d do well,” one fan said.
Britney Spears’ conservatorship timeline
In September 2021, Britney’s case returned to a Los Angeles courtroom where Judge Brenda Penny made a number of bombshell rulings, following her father’s decision to end the conservatorship the month prior.
She ruled to rid Jamie of his daughter’s conservatorship, however, it did not mean the end of the conservatorship altogether.
Speaking in court, Judge Brenda Penny said: “Based on what I read in the filings, and I read everything. I do believe the suspension of Jamie Spears is in the best interest of Britney Spears.
“The current situation is unattainable. The court finds the toxic environment Jamie Spears has created needs to be removed today.”
Following the judge’s decision, a temporary conservator was put in Jamie’s place for about a month.
In early November 2021, Jamie was back in court filing new legal documents that show he’s done fighting.
Jamie had previously demanded $2 million in exchange for stepping down but documents at the time showed that he was not seeking any further compensation.
On November 12, Judge Penny ruled in favor of the pop star, removing Jamie from the position of conservator without requiring any further mental examination from Britney.
“Hope she gets this role!! We would love to see her play this role omg,” said another.
“She has the aura already to be honest,” said a third.
“Wait. She will fit so good,” one fan said.
Britney opened up the discussion on her Instagram Story on Friday and asked who fans want to see in it.
SHE’S A STAR
At the beginning of August, Britney announced plans for a biopic based on her life.
She shared the news on X and said that she was working with La La Land producer Marc Platt.
Variety also reported that Wicked director Jon M. Chu has also signed on to the project.
Universal Pictures won the rights to the pop singer’s memoir, The Woman in Me, in an auction, which was released in October 2023.
Some celebrities that fans have suggested to play the pop princess are Millie Bobby Brown, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, and Miley Cyrus.
