Briston Maroney has returned with the announcement of a new album, JIMMY, and the release of its two latest singles, “Tomatoes” and “Bullshit.”
Due on May 2nd via Atlantic Records, JIMMY will be Maroney’s third full-length album, following 2023’s Ultrapure and his 2021 debut, Sunflower. According to its press release, the new album’s 12 tracks see him muse on the dual upbringings he received bouncing between divorced parents, one marked by the “devil-may-care spirit” of north Florida and the other by the “relatively privileged but pressured” life of a Catholic school student in Tennessee.

Ultimately, the synthesis between these two worlds is a resounding belief in “simply being yourself.” Indeed, the singles “Tomatoes” and “Bullshit” showcase the candidness and intimacy that Maroney has a knack for conveying, turning personal observations and remembrances like “listening to Ween on an airplane” into expressive, resonant compositions.

On “Tomatoes,” a grungey style is employed for this task, exploring the trials of post-adolescence with a bouncing melody; on “Bullshit,” Maroney lays it bare, supposing that “it’s all bullshit” before cathartically declaring “if it’s all bullshit/ I’ll be honest, yeah, I cannot get enough of it.”

“Tomatoes” and “Bullshit” are the second offering from JIMMY, following the previously-released single “Real Good Swimmer,” which arrived in February.
Up next, Maroney will hit the road with Peach Pit, supporting them on a European tour and co-headlining with them on the North American “Long Hair, Long Life Tour” this summer, stopping in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Atlanta, and more cities. Get tickets here.
