Boy goes viral after running back to eat food on table during earthquake

A young man has gone viral on Chinese social media for returning to the dinner table to continue eating despite an earthquake going on.

Whenever a scary situation approaches, your fight-or-flight responses kick into gear. You can either run away and avoid what danger is ahead, or you can tackle it head-on. Ultimately, everyone reacts in different ways.

In Qingyuan, China, a young man has gone viral for how he tackled an earthquake that hit his town. While the usual protocol might be to shelter in place, the young man didn’t quite follow through on that.

The earthquake in question interrupted him and his family eating, so they had to exit the table earlier than planned. Despite sheltering for a few moments, the boy ran back to the table to try and take his meal with him, much to the annoyance of his father, Li.

However, social media saw the funny side of things, especially as the boy shouted, “I haven’t finished my dinner,” after urging his mother to also take shelter with them.

It also made local news in China, with the family talking about the viral video. “At the time, I was so nervous and just kept telling him to run, run. He has a natural comedic gene. I only realised how funny it was after watching the video,” Li told Jimu news.

Li added that his son “just likes to eat,” but the incident taught him a valuable life lesson. “Life comes first, safety comes first,” he told him.

As noted, the video has been shared across TikTok, X (Formerly Twitter), and Douyin in China, with many viewers finding it as funny as Li.

The earthquake was registered as a 4.9 on the Richter scale, which was enough to visibly shake their home, but not shake his appetite.
