Bon Iver to Return on Friday With New Song and Video

Bon Iver at Pitchfork Music Festival 2023

Bon Iver have announced that they’ll release a new song and music video on Friday. Get ready for “S P E Y S I D E” on September 20.

Justin Vernon produced “S P E Y S I D E” with Jim-E Stack, and he co-wrote the song with Ryan Olson and BJ Burton. Vernon is also responsible for the song’s guitar, vocals, mixing, and engineering, the latter of which he did with Ian Gold. Longtime collaborator Rob Moose plays viola and handled string arrangements.

Bon Iver’s output has been sporadic since 2019’s i,i. That next year, they released two singles, “PDLIF” and “AUATC,” and Vernon featured on Taylor Swift’s “Exile” and “Evermore” and the Japanese House’s “Dionne.”

In 2021 and 2022, Bon Iver shared “Second Nature,” “So Unimportant,” with Ethan Gruska, and, with the National, “Weird Goodbyes.” The band also went on an extensive tour. More tour dates followed in 2023, as did the Zach Bryan collaboration “Boys of Faith.”

This year, Vernon played a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris and her Democratic running mate, Minnesota’s governor, Tim Walz, in his hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
