Willie Nelson has unveiled the artist lineup, date, and location for his esteemed Fourth of July Picnic, slated to occur just outside Philadelphia at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, N.J. The occasion, which dates back to 1973, will feature an all-star assembly of decades-deep talent during the 2024 offering, including Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Allison Krauss, Mavis Staples, and more.
In a press release outlining the annual celebration of America’s birthday, Nelson said, “I am thrilled to bring the 4th of July Picnic to Philadelphia for the first time in our storied history.” The 90-year-old outlaw country troubadour continued, “It’s an honor to host such an extraordinary lineup of talent in the birthplace of our country. We can’t wait to celebrate Independence Day with you.”
The artists set to join Nelson on the Fourth of July mimic a similar list of additions to his migrating Outlaw Music Festival Tour, which overlaps with included players Dylan, Plant, Krauss, and Celisse, represented on both lineups. The Independence Day bill is also slated to feature Maren Morris and Nelson’s Family band.
Spanning over 50 years, the first Fourth of July Picnic began in 1973 at Hurlbut Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. During its time, the event has featured performances from Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Leon Russell and more celebrated entertainers. In addition to Philly, the event has occurred nationwide, arriving at various venues, including The Gorge in Quincy, Wash., Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City and others.
The impending team-up comes after Nelson announced his new LP, The Border. Read more.
